Swirls On A Green Plate
POETRY FOR STRONG
WOMEN: When in
crisis be strong.
Dance, dance, dance!
Amongst poetry
themes are facial
scars, wrinkles,
highway driving and
work, mini pads,
malls, widowhood,
big butts, cats and
meeting the Lord in
bunny slippers. Even
death brings humor
as a scarlet plumed
horse is planned at
mother’s request, to
bear her body in her
favorite red boots. Grandmother clicks on the keys of her heavenly Sears & Roebuck typewriter from the grave. Peering through the eyes of her daughter and granddaughter, she checks to see if her essence is being interpreted correctly in their poetry. A woman is strong! A woman stays the course! Meanwhile, Dene has been set free from the hook ups of an overnight Sleep Disorder Clinic. She is warned of immediate death unless she purchases an Oxygen macine. Instead she drives to a favorite shoe store and purchases a pair of red boots. Grandmother taps insistently from the grave “We Must Not Go Over board!” Daughter Ann does what she has been taught, and laughs with her mother in the eye of the storm. Sarcastically she writes her mothers epitaph and Dene bellows out a passionate laugh. “Blow the horns oh New Orleans! She will be presented in splendor! Her epithet reads, “She died with her boots on.”
